The Space Foundation Conference

Guest:  Dr. David Livingston, host;  Topics:  Various topics as suggested by listeners in their emails and phone calls.  The host also suggested multiple discussion topics.  We covered many topics over the two hours of this program.

We welcomed listeners to the final Open Lines discussion of the year.  After I put forth some possible discussion topics, I also talked about possible changes with Open Lines in 2023 to get more callers and make it more interesting. I asked for ideas and suggestions for listeners.  I did the same for The Space Show/OGLF fundraising for our campaign now in progress.  Suggestions and ideas for more effective fundraising were and are certainly welcome along with how to have a better Open Lines program.  I suggested few OL shows, maybe going to quarterly.  I also talked about experimenting with other start times though in recent times when we have had an OL program Tuesday evening at 7 PM PST, there have not been many callers if any at all.

Ft. Worth John called to talk about my DearMoon commentary.  He said it would be delayed and not flow in 2023 as Starship has not yet even received its launch license as far as any of us knew. I had a listener tell me they were using a modified Dragon for DearMoon but the listeners said no to that, it would be on Starship so not nearly as crowded as a Dragon would be on such a flight.  John also mentioned the hearings on the UAP issue as it is in the Defense Act signed or about to be signed.

Bill from Raleigh called next.  Evidently the news media and others talked about skip maneuver for Orion returning to Earth at the Earth's atmosphere. Throughout our discussion for the program there was lots of input on the skip maneuver and what it was during Apollo.  Adrian sent in multiple emails that I read on air about it and other callers brought it up.  Bill mentioned other missions during his call.

We had a new caller, Michael from Lakewood, FL.  He watched the SLS Artemis 1 launch so we talked with him about it and the SLS launch.  It was a very interesting call so make sure you hear it.  I asked questions about the SLS, vibration, impact on wildlife at the Cape and more. Later, Fremont John called to speak to many topics but also tell us about the company that is sending a payload to the Moon and managed to get commercial loss insurance for the payload.  Don't miss what Fremont John said about this.  He also talked about the Lunar Flashlight Mission launching.

Several of the callers and those email had seen the documentary "Good Night Oppy" so that was definitely a discussion topic as was the program we did last Tuesday with Doug Ellison of JPL and main player in the movie.  At one point I asked a question about the erupting volcano in Hawaii which Ft. Worth John responded to and compared to the previous eruption of Mt. St. Helens.  Adrian introduced us to the Angry Astronaut site on YouTube, a sight you might want to pay attention to as Adrian said many of his posts were very entertaining.

On and off during the program I talked fundraising for the program given we are in the middle of our annual campaign.  I made several appeals, talked about the program being 100% listener funded and that the future of the program was on the shoulders of the listeners who fund it.

I believe this was a good Open Line program pushing almost to two hours.  Please post your comments/questions for any of the callers or emailers and me on our blog for the show.  You can also send ideas and more to drspace@thespaceshow.com.  Remember we are closing in on just 19 days left of our campaign and we are 25% of our goal.  We definitely need your help this year to put Zoom services into The Space Show mix and to do more so please donate and support us.
