John Batchelor and I welcomed back Anatoly Zak to discuss the announcement that Russia would be leaving the ISS after 2024. Anatoly said it was not really a new statement because there was no actual timeline given for leaving the ISS. Russia has always said it would leave after 2024. Russia said it wants to devote resources to a new Russian space station. We asked Anatoly about the Russian modules if the U.S. plans to continue operation of the ISS. No details were known on that issue so far. Anatoly also talked about Your Borisov, a Deputy Prime Minister, taking over Roscosmos and becoming the new space program leader. Before ending, Anatoly was asked if Russia would continue to maintain their hardware and modules on the ISS given the issues with their hardware over the recent years. Anatoly thought they would and suggested Russia had no where to go but he was not certain.
