The Space Foundation Conference

Guest:  Michelle Del Valle, NewSpace 2022 Co-Chair;  Topics:  Michelle briefly discussed her science background, then we focused on the upcoming NewSpace 2022 Event in Seattle from August 24-26.  See The Space Show special offer on the blog for those attending.

We welcomed Michelle Del Valle to the show to discuss and update us on the upcoming NewSpace 22 Conference to be held in Seattle, August 24-26 of this year.  After Michell's introduction including a brief summary of her science background and plans to start her own research company, we turned our attention to NewSpace 2022.  Be sure to visit the SFF website for more information and to follow along with us.  See https://newspace.spacefrontier.org/newspace.  To check out the schedule, the speakers and events, scroll down on the conference page beyond the speakers and their pictures to the three day schedule at the bottom of the page.  While Michelle touched on event highlights, for full conference information check it all out on the website.

After Michelle described the location, hotel, registration process with costs, and facilities, she talked about the program starting with the keynote speaker and the Day 1 schedule.  The Opening Keynote speaker will be a Blue Origin New Shepard Astronaut Audrey Powers who will talk about her journey from Engineering to Law to becoming a New Shepard Astronaut.  Michelle went through the Day 1 schedule with us, then she turned to Day 2 which will focus on commercial space, human spaceflight, entrepreneurship and industrial development. Note the reception at the end of Day 2. For Day 3, the final day of the event there will be more on entrepreneurship, diversity, discussion of the block chain economy and at the end, an awards ceremony.

As for event details, the conference is in person only as there will be no virtual component.  Don't miss what our guest said about recordings of sessions that may interest you.  In addition, our guest zeroed in on several of presentations and panels, offering us more detail than what is on the website schedule.  At one point, a listener asked Michelle to tell us what SFF meant when using the term "equitable" which had been used several times in our discussion.  Joe from Houston wanted to know if this year's event would still have an Advocate's program and if new Advocates would be accepted into the organization.  Business plans came up though there will be no specific business plan program at this year's even.

At the end of the program Michelle offered a special deal to Space Show listeners wanting to attend. That offer was later posted on the blog so if you are going, be sure to take advantage of it.

Please post comments/questions for Michelle on our blog.  You can reach or guest through the SFF website above or through me.
