We welcomed Ryan back to The Space Show to discuss his unusual space advocacy journey.  Ryan started of with a somewhat short but detailed discussion of his background, including problems, trouble, and bad habits along the way, big challenges, college, marriage and then on to his space interests and to today.  Ryan expressed solid ideas and goals for his space interests and advocacy, many of which you can see from reviewing the tags for this program.  For your convenience, I’ve copied the tags below.

Tags: Ryan’s short version life story, Ryan’s interest in space, Ryan’s space advocacy and objectives, space advocacy organizations, Ryan’s education through college, Mars settlement, virtual reality discussion, making space attractive to others, “owning a bit of space,” the value of space, civil space, reality, “raising the river level,” Avi Loeb, getting to know the person for talking space, motivation, big ideas, Ryan explains why, how and when, big rockets, tactile experiences, plausible is important, needing to feel space, examples such as Charles Pooley and Jeff Bell, microlaunchers, getting people involve, taking the ride with Pooley, Etch-A-Sketch On the Moon, art, culture.

The majority of our discussion focused on Ryan wanting to have and others to have a “real” experience of space. At one point Ryan talked about taking space out of one’s pocket for personal ownership.  He was asked about virtual reality which he nixed.  You will want to hear why he nixed it.  For metaphors, Ryan used the term “raising the river level.” He does explain it multiple times and he used it multiple times during the interview.  He also talked about working with folks to assist them in having a plausible and tactile space experience. He went on to explain that comment as well.

Our program went for a few minutes past 2 hours given audience participation and Ryan making multiple supporting points. In addition, he talked about models citing both Charles Pooley with his Microlaunchers program plus Jeff Bell as he had recently listened to the Jeff Bell archives I set up on my recent away period.  While listeners have already commenting on this program on the blog, many of the comments have been off topic on AI but please, as you listen to Ryan or after you listen to his full discussion on these topics, goals and personal concerns, offer up your own comment(s) on the blog given Ryan’s discussion.  We do want to hear from you.

Please post your comments/questions about the interview for Ryan on our blog for this program.  You can reach Ryan through The Space Show.
