John Batchelor and I welcomed back Dr. Harold Connolly to discuss the early analysis of the sample return mission from Bennu. Our guest had much to say about this being a CM Carbonaceous chondrite asteroid with an age of about 4.5 billion years. Sulfur was found on the surface which our guest discussed. He also mentioned that they were only looking at the overflow particles in the return capsule in that they had yet to open any of the actual sample containers. Both John and Harold mentioned a few times that Bennu might contain the building blocks of life. During this short one segment Hotel Mars program, our guest talked about other geologic features of Bennu, its size and also mentioned the Japanese Ryugu mission that had some similar findings with its sample return.
