John Batchelor and I welcomed DR. RYAN MacDonald from the University of Michigan to discuss his team's findings regarding the use of the JWST in observing exoplanets and their atmospheres. His research was specifically focused on the TRAPPIST -1 system which we discussed during this segment of Hotel Mars. We discussed CO2 in the atmosphere, rocky planets, the habitable zone for this cool star, a red dwarf plus the existence of stellar contamination which can impact the observations. As this was considered new research and findings with the JWST, our guest was anxious to more studies involving additional exoplanets using JWST and applying what has been discovered so far to new discoveries.
