We welcomed Dr. Egbert Edelbroek from SpaceBorn United in Holland to the show to continue our ongoing discussion with multiple guests on enabling human reproduction in space. We led the discussion with me asking our guest why he was including IVF (In vitro fertilization) in our conversation about enabling human reproduction in space. Egbert then talked about long terms for space R&D have a direct bearing on improving IVF here on Earth. Listen to this early part of the discussion for more information on this subject. As mentioned above, most of the discussion was on the subject of fetal development, childbirth, children space, pregnancy, all taking place in space. We talked about the Japanese embryo experiments, artificial gravity possibilities, responsibility, pregnancy before we have sufficient science to know it will be ok and other similar topics. One of the short topics I found interesting focused on ways to make sure people going to space act responsibly about sex in space or trying to have a child in LEO or cislunar space or on the Moon. We also talked about ways to somehow enforce responsible action and who might have liability for bad outcomes. Once again, our discussion focused on the need to determine the GravityRX though no matter how much support there is to do that, the effort continues to drag. Egbert did mention equipment being developed by ESA to do GravityRX experiments here on Earth. I'm sure we will hear more about that as the equipment is used and reports come in.
Many email questions were taken focusing on the possibility of the private sector carrying the financial load for the R&D or would government be essential. Our guest preferred Public Private Partnerships but did say it might be too costly for the private sector since ROIs would be hard to obtain. What are your thoughts on this funding for R&D issue? Before ending, Egbert was asked if he had talked to Musk about these issues and what was the result. He said that he was told that Musk feels his job is to concentrate on the rocket and transportation. Others that have expertise in the issues we talked about today will carry the ball in those fields. At some point it will all integrate.
