Welcome to our last Open Lines program of 2023. Our program covered 1 hour 38 minutes of discussion mostly generated by callers. The major topics covered are reflected in the Tags which I will repeat below. As with other programs, I suggest you follow the Tag topics as they are listed in the order discussed.
Tags: Merry Christmas greetings, Space Show funding campaign and needs, space settlement, ULA possible sale, Boeing's sale motivation, quantum drive, quantum inertia, propellant free propulsion, changing orbits, Rogue Space Systems and IVO Ltd on the quantum drive, fusion, biosphere and farming in space, thorium for energy, hyperloop, the issue of failure, Rocket Lab, Elong Musk and SpaceX, Zoom possibilities for The Space Show, point to point challenges, upcoming Mike Griffin show, Tasmanian Devil in astronomy, super nova, extreme brightness, Charles Miller and Lynk Global going public with A-Rod SPAC, Shark Tank show, Slam Corp SPAC Structure.
I started the program with fundraising efforts as we still have a few days left in 2023 to raise the funds for The Space Show in 2024. We talked about the needs of The Space Show, my fundraising abilities, some changes that I would like to see made such as adding a Zoom option for programs and guests plus a few more related items. We hope you will donate to our campaign. Use the PayPal button in the upper right corner of the website home page as it has all the donor information, addresses and more pending just how you want to donate.
One of the topics I mentioned was that rumors were showing ULA on the bidding block to three companies including Blue Origin. Additional rumors mentioned a value of maybe 2-4 billion dollars. John Hunt called in wondering what motivation Boeing and Lockheed would have to sell out of ULA. While such motivation has not been made public as far as I know, I guessed that it had to do with high legacy and infrastructure costs make it almost impossible to compete with SpaceX and other NewSpace companies. Listen to the discussion with Ft. Worth John and let us know what you think the selling motivation might be for the ULA partners. We also talked about ULA having an important national security footprint so we thought the government would certainly have some sort of vested or regulatory interest in a sale involving ULA. Let us know what you think by posting on our blog.
Fremont John wanted to talk with Ft. Worth John so I connected them for lengthy conversation which started out discussing the quantum Drive Jeromy from Rogue Space Systems talked about during his recent Space Show program. Ft. Worth John was not sure what it was, Fremont read some website descriptions of the quantum drive, they discussed quantum inertia and then talked about the drive offering propellant free propulsion. Hunt thought it might be similar to what Dr. Woodward was working on plus it reminded all of us about Emdrive from a few years ago. The company behind the drive it is IVO Ltd. In the UK. I will see if I can bring them on the show for a discussion.
As we moved along, I mentioned that Bachelor was looking to do a fusion show with another startup company making propulsion claims. Fremont John had heard of the company, but we did not know much about it or their progress. Stay tuned for more on the fusion topic. Marshall called to again mention farming in space and biosphere concerns. Don't miss his comments.
Ajay called on the tail end of our fusion discussion to mention the potential of thorium, something he has been talking about for quite some time. Ajay also spoke about Dr. Mike Griffin returning to The Space Show Tuesday evening, Dec. 26. He mentioned that failure should be an option and cited Musk as an example. He also expressed some concerns about Starship and though the FH was probably a bitter size given where we are today with tech and related matters. He also had some negative things to say about the commercial viability of point-to-point transportation.
Nearing the end of the program, Fremont called back to talk about the Tasmanian Devil in astronomy. Our Hotel Mars guest for Dec. 27 is going to discuss this subject as her Cornell work in on extremely bright stars and exoplanets that have earned this nickname. Tune in for this Hotel Mars program for lots more on the Tasmanian Devil. Fremont John then plugged Lynk Global going public with an A-Rod SPAC. Listen for details, including what he knew about the SPAC from the Shark Tank program.
