We welcomed Alexey Popov to the program to discuss the prototype Sirius Jet using a VTOL hydrogen-electric powertrain. Please refer to the tags for the topics discussed during this show. Note that the tags have been repeated below for your convenience.

Alexey talked about the unveiling of their Sirius Jet in San Francisco in mid-January 2024. Our guest responded to multiple listener questions regarding the hydrogen propulsion system technology, plus both the safety and availabihttps://siriusjet.com/news/lity of hydrogen as a fuel. Check out their website for more information: https://siriusjet.com. You can find the news announcement about the jet's unveiling at https://siriusjet.com/news.
While following the tags and the announcements will update you on both the show and the Sirius Jet, some parts of the conversation stood out from my perspective. The two biggest standouts focused on the availability of hydrogen fuel at airports around the country. The second was the safety factor using hydrogen given we all have seen the photos and know the story of Hindenburg that used hydrogen fuel. Our guest discussed each of these concerns in some detail, but you be the judge. Were you and are you convinced that the market is ready for this, and that safety is acceptable? Please post your comments on these subjects on our blog for this show.
Funding for the project was a big issue. Not only are the design partners with the design being made in the States, but they have VC backing out of Silicon Valley. When listener Marshall called to go over costs and efficiency with our guests, you the listener come away with a clearer picture of the economics and competitiveness of the vehicle. This includes performance, how far it can fly before refueling along with other stats. You might have thoughts on the performance of the vehicle so please share them with us by posting on our blog for this show. Other concerns were mentioned such as batteries for backup or emergency power. Linda wanted to know if the plane would be certified to fly over water. Jack wanted to know the actual green carbon footprint of the vehicle.
