We welcomed Joe Carroll back to the show to review where we are today plus the progress that has been made, if any, in understanding gravity, partial gravity, and human tolerances in less than 1g. As with other programs, use the tags as a short summary of topics discussed on the show and for the most part also in the order they were discussed. For convenience I have repeated the tags below.

Tags: Joe Carroll, artificial gravity (AG), artificial gravity progress, space development progress, SpaceX, Starship and human space reality, Falcon rockets, Dragon Capsule, ISS, LEO, Starlink, LEO debris challenges, human exploration over 20 years, AI in rocketry, robotics, learning to live in space still to happen, equatorial LEO orbit, ISS partial gravity testing, needing to understand gravity, pipe dreams to date, spin rates for humans, learning how people will tolerate spin, serious issues for space settlement, Apollo model, plants in space, animals, national security space issues and concerns, Space Force commentary, no clear cut reason for people in space, people adapting to spin, space tourism time in space, 1g is normal spin at 2.2 mph, quantification of gravity, NASA and gravity, 2004 Moon-Mars And Beyond Program, winged human spacecraft, classifications for human spacecraft, planning the future.

Joe did an excellent job talking about the lack of progress in understanding gravity related to human spaceflight and in human spaceflight in general over the past several decades.  He provided examples in support of his commentary plus toward the end of the discussion he talked about what it might take to create a path forward toward eventually having humans living in space.  He was clear that we were not there yet but his suggested path addresses artificial and partial gravity, the facts about spin rates and human tolerances, the use of the special LEO orbit without radiation - an orbit not being used at this time though it has been promoted by Al Globus and others including here on The Space Show.

Later in the program Joe talked about the various models for human spaceflight vehicles. He listed the different types such as capsules and winged vehicles, then listed the pros and cons for each type.  Share your thoughts on this and what our guest had to say about progress being made or the lack of progress being made. We want to hear from you.  In addition, our guests suggested we visit the website https://artificial-gravity.com for reference and source material.  When asked why NASA was not engaging in AG, Joe said they had never been tasked to do that.  Listen to all of what he said in his NASA comments relevant to the study of AG.  During the program Joe references various published papers and books so have your pencil and paper ready to write them down should you wish to delve into these subjects more.

Please post your comments/questions for our guest on this program's blog.  You can reach Joe Carroll through The Space Show or his paper posted to the blog for this program.
