We welcomed Agnieszka Pilat to the program to discuss her space art with SpaceX and more regarding technology as the cathedral of today.  Our guest is an award-winning artist with current work "exploring the philosophical underpinnings of modern technology and has involved series at SpaceX, Boston Dynamics, and Waymo."  You can learn much more about her art on her Instagram pages plus the TED talk she gave which is posted on our blog for this program.  In addition, check out some of these links:  https://www.instagram.com/agnieszka_pilat/?hl=en; https://www.pilatart.com; https://www.linkedin.com/in/agnieszka-pilat-3a7ab6a4; and scroll down on this link for more and her videos:  https://www.google.com/search?gs_ssp=eJzj4tVP1zc0TDPJLjMyNkgxYPTiT0zPy0wtrspOVCjIzEksAQCZjwo0&q=agnieszka+pilat&rlz=1C1RXQR_enUS934US934&oq=Agnie&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqBwgEEC4YgAQyBggAEEUYOTIKCAEQLhixAxiABDIGCAIQABgDMgoIAxAuGLEDGIAEMgcIBBAuGIAEMgcIBRAAGIAEMgcIBhAuGIAEMgcIBxAuGIAEMgcICBAuGIAE0gEKMjE1NDJqMGoxNagCALACAA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Our guest talked about art, her shift to technology and how it represents the cathedrals of today. In asking her about her SpaceX art which focused on the Dragon hatch, she had much to say, both about the object as art and her experience doing the SpaceX series along with how she sees space.  If you go through some of the above links you will see pictures of her working on the SpaceX series at SpaceX.  Much of our conversation focused on her Boston Dynamics robotic pet dog, Spot.  It has been and still is a big part of her art, her experience and her work and presentations.  She also takes Spot on walks with her around NYC which does engage people stopping to talk with her about her unusual dog.  Later in the program a listener asked her to present at a space conference and suggested ISDC since it is coming up in a few months.  After the program I sent our guest some ISDC info and connected her to people that could make it happen for her should she be able to attend and want to attend.  I personally hope she does as I would like to meet Spot!

A good part of our discussion centered on her growing up in communist Poland. There was no connection to technology nor did they have much of anything.  Listen to her describe her family and their situation.  Our guest brought up the Cold War American radio station, Radio Free Europe. She talked about how they listened to it to have hope and what it meant when the wall came down and her father for example quit drinking, got a car and their lives changed.  Her environment greatly influenced her work and still does influence it. It helps one to understand how she sees and experiences technology today.  While we discussed other aspects of her art, hearing how she sees technology, how she blends it with a type of religion and seeing examples of her art on the web, plus talking with her about space and what it means to her through her art, well, it was in my opinion a superb Space Show program with an exceptional guest.
