John Powell, President and Founder of JP Aerospace, was the guest on The Space Show Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003. John discussed the plans for JPAerospace, its launch platforms, balloon launches, the technology and science supporting their business plan and operations. John also discussed the need for his company to comply with ITARS, what it is like working with the FAA AST on regulatory issues, and the State Dept. regarding ITARS. We also discussed his coming project with Michael Laine regarding space elevator technology, his thoughts on space policy, the OSP, NASA, and other relevant topics.

Dr. Bernard Foing, the Chief Scientist for the European Space Agency (ESA) Research and Scientific Support Department, was the Space Show guest for this program. Dr. Foing described in detail the his work at ESA, including the SMART-1 Mission, Mars missions, lunar research, Mars and other planetology and astrobiology. We discussed European attitudes with space exploration and development, commercial space development including lunar settlements and commerce, and the Chinese space program.

Brian Chase, the Executive Director for the National Space Society was the guest for this Space Show program. We had a most interesting discussion about the role of space advocate organizations, how they do effective lobbying with Congress, the best way to approach those in Washington to influence space policy and what not to do when trying to influence an elected official. We also discussed the National Space Society and its goals, its worldwide offices, its relationship with other space advocacy organizations, and the personal vision for space development of Mr. Chase. Ms. Sylvia Engdahl, the author of science fiction novels first published in the 1970s and recently reissued, as well as an outspoken web publisher and writer concerning the importance of space colonization, was the guest on The Space Show for this program. During our discussing, we not only talked about space colonization and why it is important for everyone, but we discussed at length ways to bring the importance of space colonization to the public, including finding paths to facilitate the understanding of space development importance to the environmental activists and movement.

Dennis Wingo, President of Skycorp, Inc. and Chief Technical Officer for Orbital Recovery Corporation, was the guest on The Space Show for this program. Mr. Wingo shared his thoughts with us regarding effective space advocacy, the importance of proper business planning for space business ventures, on orbit construction and repair and geo satellite life extension through his company Orbital Recovery Corporation. Jim Spellman, the founder and director of the Western Spaceport Chapter of the National Space Society and a member of the California Spaceport Authority, was the guest on The Space Show for this program. Mr. Spellman discussed the Chinese launch this evening, joining the United States and Russia as the only nations that put a human in space. All aspects of the Chinese accomplishment were discussed, including possible political and military ramifications in this country, Russia, and Europe to the Chinese launch.

Dr. Al Differ, the Director of Analysis with JP Aerospace and a member of the Board of Directors for the Space Frontier Foundation, was the guest for The Space Show for this program. Dr. Differ discusses balloon launches, space access, the importance of space advocacy and how to make it work, various aspects of space policy, solar sails and related technology, space profitability, markets, and space organizations. We also discussed the economics of space policy and development.

Ned Dodds, a retired high school teacher and outstanding space researcher, discusses his work aimed at providing school children and others with resources and educational tools supporting solar system exploration and development. Mr. Dodds took us through his website, www.beyondearthorbit.org, pointing out the highlights as well as taking notes on new features and services to add to his site to make it the premiere source of solar system information.

Tim Pickens is currently a propulsion engineer for Plasma Processes and is a consultant to Burt Rutan and Scaled Composites with SpaceShipOne. Mr. Pickens explains rocket propulsion during this program, the advantages and disadvantages of various rocket fuels, he talks at length about the sub-orbital industry, and he discusses his experiences with Scaled Composites and the SpaceShipOne. We also talk about space vision, RLVs, government, amateur rocketry, and rocket powered bicycles.
