The Space Foundation Conference

Broadcast 135 (Special Edition)

Dr. Jordin Kare discusses the technology and facts pertaining to his stellar work with laser launch for space access. We discuss all aspects of the use for lasers in accessing space. We also discuss the use of lasers in other disciplines, including commercial markets, for military purposes, and more. We address the likelihood of this technology being competitive in commercial markets both with conventional rockets and other emerging technologies, as well as the various plausible commercial space ventures which seem to be developing.

Broadcast 134 (Special Edition)

Mr. John McKnight discusses his recent SpaceDaily.com op-ed pieces concerning the growth of private military companies as evidenced by current developments in Iraq and their potential implication for space development. We discuss the militarization and weaponization of space, space policy, the proper role for government in space and how citizens can work to make sure that commercial space development moves forward in balance with legitimate government needs in space.

Broadcast 133 (Special Edition)

Dr. John Jurist is the guest on this edition of The Space Show. Dr. Jurist discusses the biomedical factors associated with suborbital flights, including acceleration, radiation exposure, reduced atmosphere pressure, gas issues and more. We will also address many of these issues for orbital space flight and longer space missions to Mars, including the pros and cons for using nuclear powered vehicles. Dr. Jurist will also discuss the regulatory issues of today compared to what they were forty years ago.

Broadcast 132 (Special Edition)

Professor Glenn Reynolds is the guest for the first half hour. The second half hour is an Open Lines program. Professor Reynolds is a law professor at the University of Tennessee and co-author of the book, Outer Space: Problems of Law and Policy. During his interview, Professor Reynolds discusses space policy in the U.S., Europe, Russia, and China. We also talk about space law and property rights, its history and the continued development of space law and property right, especially in light of the entrepreneurial activity for space commerce.

Broadcast 131 (Special Edition)

Former NASA Astronaut Dr. Philip K. Chapman was the guest on the July 1, 2003 Space Show. During our Space Show discussion, we talked about his recent SpaceDaily.com editorial titled, "The Failure of NASA: And A Way Out," as well as space solar powered satellites, space tourism, commerce, and much more. Dr. Chapman suggested concrete steps to enhance our space program and the private sector as the driving power behind further space development and exploration.

Broadcast 130 (Special Edition)

Benjamin Thomas Solomon is the featured guest on the Sunday Space Show. Mr. Solomon discusses his work regarding gravity and space propulsion systems. Mr. Solomon explains his theory on gravity and the nature of his experiments that have shown he can negate about 3% of the weight of an object with possible applications to space launch and propulsion systems. Mr. Solomon also talks about scientific theories, academic experimentation, the need for different types of propulsion systems to travel to space and the reasons for traveling to space and even settling on a planet such as Mars. Mr.

Broadcast 129 (Special Edition)

Dr. Brad Edwards, director of research at the Institute for Scientific Research, Inc., provides us with an update regarding new developments concerning the space elevator since his last appearance on this program, October 9, 2002. Broadcast 128 (Special Edition)

John B. Barber is the co-founder and President of Modern Transport Systems Corp and the inventor of the magnetic levitation technology being developed by the company. During this interview, Mr. Barber explains how magnetic levitation can be applicable to assisting in the launch of winged space craft, and how such "mag-lev" would work. We discuss not only the technical side of mag-lev, but also the practical and economic side of using this technology. We also discuss its application in low gravity environments such as on the Moon and on Mars. Mr.

Broadcast 127 (Special Edition)

Dr. John Bossard has been actively involved in both experimental rocketry as well as homebuilt aircraft. During this interview, Dr. Bossard discusses his ideas for a homebuilt aerospace plane which will provide alternative, low cost, suborbital space access for many people. We discuss the rockets, licensing requirements, flight patterns for such aircraft, and lots of philosophy and vision. This is a very interesting program, offering Space Show listeners something new to ponder in terms of our gaining access to space and becoming space-faring. Dr.
