Fred von Lohmann is the guest on The Space Show for Tuesday, June 10, 2003. This is a non-space program, one of those rare programs during the year when a topic is so important and so widespread that as host of The Space Show, I feel it deserves attention. Fred von Lohmann is the Senior Intellectual Property Attorney for The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF). Mr. Lohmann is one of the key attorneys involved in the legal arguments with the Recording Industry of America (RIAA), the downloading of music on the internet, and file sharing.

Rand Simberg, a former project manager with Rockwell International, now publishes a weekly article with Fox News Online as well as maintaining a superb space policy weblog. During this program, Mr. Simberg discusses various aspects of space policy, the manned space flight program as maintained by NASA, the ISS, space commerce and space tourism, affordable space access by the private sector, and much more. Mr. Simberg is quite outspoken about what is needed for our nation to move forward in space development, including strong recommendations regarding government space policies and programs.

Professor Bruce Lusignan Director of the Stanford Communications Satellite Planning Center and the Stanford Center for International Cooperation in Space, along with students Brett Allard, Arnt Hein, and Luca Derosa, discuss the Stanford-Russian Mars study program, the Europe Small Satellite Program for universities, the NATO Science and Peace Program and the Moon Program. Professor Lusignan also talks about the Clementine 2 mission and the Mars Challenge with the Russians.

The Suborbital Institute and its director, Pat Bahn, along with Neil Milburn of Armadillo Aerospace, discuss suborbital space flight, policy, the Armadillo suborbital program, the TGV Rockets suborbital program, commercial space ports, and much more. We also discuss the FAA AST, lobbying, and the congressional view of private sector space access in the aftermath of the Columbia accident.

Elon Musk is the CEO of his new company, SpaceX. During this program, Mr. Musk explains what he is doing with SpaceX, his new rocket and launch vehicle company. We discuss alternative access, NASA, the Colombia Accident Investigation Board, and other issues relating to developing and building an alternative launch vehicle and just how best to access space.

Chris Gillman, founder of Global Effects, Inc., makers of space suits for the entertainment industry is the guest on this edition of The Space Show. During the program, Mr. Gillman discusses space suits and their history, the different kinds of space suits and their purpose, how they are created and used in the film industry and much more. He also talks about how the actors work in them, and what they do with the suits once a film is completed. This is serious business, rapidly growing worldwide, and surprisingly, many items that have been in space from both Russia and the United States make it into the hands of collectors.
